Child Empowerment Program
The Direct Child Assistance project is a five years programme funded by liliane Foundation Netherlands and SWEB Foundation. The programme is implementing in Nanumba North and South and Amensie West districts in the Ashanti and northern regions of Ghana, by using Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR) as a strategy to improve quality life of persons with disabilities. It focuses on working with persons with disabilities, their families, service providers, local government and other relevant stakeholders to remove barriers that result in the exclusion of persons with disabilities from participation in community life. The programme offer children/youngsters with disabilities below 25 years opportunity to go to school, with support of exercise books, textbooks, uniforms, sandals, wheelchairs and other aids to enhance their quality learning and inclusion. It also supports children/youngster who needs basic surgery/rehabilitation to improve their mobility access. .
The programme also raises awareness on the causes and prevention of disabilities and to increase engagement in the prevention of child abuse. Also it supports their family through economic independence by establishing Parents Support Groups (PSG) for enterprise ventures. Finally, the programme is addressing barriers that prevent children/youngster in participating in their community activities as well as building the capacity of Disability People Organizations (DPO’s).to advocate for their rights and access to services in their locality
